This is your opportunity to own one of the cleanest and most complete swapped Legacy sedans out there!

I bought this white 1997 Legacy GT sedan in 2005, and over the last 7 years it has gone through quite a few changes to become what it is today.

In early 2008 I stripped everything out of the car and began the process of completely converting it to 2005 WRX mechanicals and electronics. This isn't your average engine swap, the only original mechanical components still on the car at this point are the driveshaft and steering column. On the mechanical side, it received an 04 STi front crossmember and 2005 WRX engine, transmission, rear diff, axles, hubs, fuel tank & complete EVAP system.

The car was then completely rewired, I started with the complete WRX harness which was lengthened to fit the BD chassis' longer wheelbase and modified to work with the Legacy doors, taillights, sunroof, etc. The original HVAC controls were integrated into the WRX harness, and a new harness created to integrate the JDM Legacy headlights, radiator fans & Hella Supertones into the WRX harness. The 05 WRX instrument cluster and fuse panel were modified to work with the Legacy dash, as if it came from the factory that way.

The end result is a car that has all the 2005 WRX systems from the complete engine and drivetrain, all the engine control and EVAP systems, to keyless entry, electronic cruise control, 2005 ABS (light years ahead of the 97 system), WRX instrument cluster integrated into the Legacy dash, the list is endless.

Unfortunately, once the swap was completed I discovered that the donor motor had a spun rod bearing. The EJ205 was torn down and rebuilt with STi rods, ACL race bearings, STi cams, ported and polished heads & intake manifold w/ TGV delete, DomTune ported & polished oil pump, new water pump & gates timing belt. At the same time I installed the ported & polished VF29 turbo (originally from a JDM V6 STi Type RA), helix up-pipe, GPMoto catted downpipe w/ heat wrap and wideband O2 bung, custom STi catback, STi pink injectors, Sard FPR, Walbro 255lph fuel pumpm, Innovate wideband O2 sensor, fuel & oil pressure gauge, custom polished APS inlet, STi intercooler & BPV w/ Samco hoses & t-bolt clamps, STi engine mounts, DomTune BCS & more.

It was tuned by Dom of DomTune & Maxwell Power, runs great and is making an estimated 280hp at 19psi on a fairly conservative 93 octane tune.

And that's just the engine...every bushing in the car was replaced with either polyurethane or STi Group-N spec, an 04 STi front crossmember & quick-ratio steering rack (w/ polyurethane mounts) were installed, Whiteline 20mm rear and Cobb 22mm hollow front sway bars, Endura-tech coilovers, ALK & Roll Center Ajustment kit, JDM GC8 STi alloy front control arms, JDM GC8 STi carbon fiber front strut tower bar, etc, etc.

For stopping power it has 05 Baja front & 03 H6 rear brakes, with Goodridge stainless brake lines, brand new rotors & Stoptech performance pads all round, which work great with the 05 WRX ABS system.

On the interior, I started by removing all the heavy factory sound deadening material. The entire floor, sills, tunnel & lower 1/2 of the doors were then covered with RAAMmat butyl-based sound deadening material to keep things quiet and comfortable. It has 100% functional & fully integrated WRX gauge cluster, original HVAC, WRX pedals, kartboy short shift kit w/ STi piston gear knob, STi boost gauge & STi steering wheel (with 100% working airbag & cruise control), SPA techniques digital combination fuel/oil pressure gauge, Innovate XD-16 wideband & hardwired Smartcord for an Escort radar detector. Audio is taken care of by a Clarion CZ500 headunit & Infinity reference speakers. OEM STi floor mats and full LED lighting round out the interior.

In keeping with the overall theme of flying under the radar, the exterior has been kept relatively stock. JDM front and rear lights were installed, along with a JDM L7 grill, 17" Prodrive P1 rims and Kumho SPT tires. The Endura-tech coilovers give the car an aggressive stance without being too low.

I've had a great time building and driving this car, but I just picked up a new project and have to make room in the stable. It runs great and has been 100% reliable since the rebuild was completed, in the last 2 years I've put just under 5000 miles on the car without any issues. At this point the drivetrain has just under 50,000 miles on it (5,000 since the engine rebuild), and the body has approximately 125,000.

There are a few things that a prospective buyer should be aware of; the paintwork is in good shape overall, but is showing the age of the car especially on the bumpers. The only rust on the body was one spot on the rear passenger fender, which has been cut out, new metal welded in, and resprayed. The chrome on the JDM grill is peeling. The sunroof has some rust on the underside of the frame, and should be repaired or replaced at some point. The driveshaft carrier bearing (one of the only original mechanical parts left!) is a little noisy on decel.
